A commuter's metal chain getting lodged in a train door guideway led to the disruption of Namma Metro service at Cubbon Park station on the Purple Line on June 25 evening. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) shared the findings of a preliminary investigation on June 26.

The incident, which occurred between 7.36 p.m. and 7.54 p.m., led to a temporary disruption of Namma Metro services, and resulted in overcrowding at several stations along the Purple Line during the evening peak hours.

BMRCL said that the investigation conducted by its Operations and Maintenance teams revealed that the metal chain got stuck in the train door guideway, preventing the doors from closing properly. As a result, the train could not proceed until the obstruction was removed, disrupting services.

No technical malfunction in the equipment was detected during a detailed inspection of the train and its door operating system, ruling out mechanical failure as the cause of the disruption.

The clarification comes a day after the incident triggered concerns over the reliability of metro operations, especially in the wake of two service disruptions on the Purple Line in the past one week.

The Cubbon Park incident had affected train movement on the busy east-west corridor, with commuters experiencing delays during the evening peak hour.
