Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Transporation Secretary Sean Duffy are speaking Tuesday morning about legislative efforts to ensure aviation safety, including reauthorization and modernization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Following a slew of aviation accidents this year, Duffy called for a massive update to the FAA and air traffic control system's antiquated technology and recruitment efforts. He's also suggested that funds allocated in the recently signed "big, beautiful" spending and tax law would not be enough.

Cruz, who chairs the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, has also led an effort in the upper chamber to update aviation safety standards.

The news conference is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. EDT.
