Filmmaker-actor Mahesh Manjrekar has collaborated with actor Salman Khan in several films, including Wanted (2009), Dabangg (2010), Ready (2011), and Bodyguard (2011), among others. Mahesh often speaks highly of his long-standing relationship with Salman. While promoting his upcoming Marathi film Devmanus, the actor-filmmaker once again reflected on their bond, saying Salman “is always there for you.”
Mahesh recalled that even before working together, Salman reached out to him during a tough period in his life, which was completely unexpected.
He said, “We had never worked together then. But I had some problem, and out of the blue he called me on my landline and said, ‘Don’t worry, everything will be fine.’ It felt like that Marathi saying — ‘Bhiu nako, mi tujhya pathishi aahe’ (Don’t be afraid, I’m right behind you) and he has always been there since then.”
Mahesh Manjrekar and Salman Khan‘s equation is credited to the honesty in their relationship. “I think ‘Dabangg’ was the first film. After that, I did a role in almost all his films. We clicked, and I don’t know why. I’m not part of that clique who always praises him in whatever he does. I’m very honest with him — and sometimes that becomes a problem. But I do it because I really like him. Others aren’t honest; they just want to stay close to him,” Manjrekar shared.
Devmanus, helmed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar, also stars Renuka Shahane, Subodh Bhave, and Siddharth Bodke in pivotal roles. The movie is set to hit theatres on April 25.
