The maintenance of peace and tranquillity in border areas is of “utmost importance,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday (August 11, 2026), adding that India has always emphasised in bilateral talks that Chinese troops crossing into Indian territories constitute some of the “most serious” issues.
Speaking at the bi-weekly press conference, Randhir Jaiswal, official spokesperson of the MEA, said the condition of the border areas will “reflect” on the larger India-China relations.
Meanwhile, official sources said that the Army and the ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) are geared up to ‘dominate’ the border and check Chinese activities.
The responses came after fresh allegations surfaced around August 5–6 that Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops crossed the Line of Actual Control (LAC) at Pukar La and Ollo in Taksing circle of Upper Subansiri. Recently, Nah Welfare Society chairman Keru Chader said the PLA entered and is “at our doorstep,” while the district administration stayed silent.
“In matters relating to the border areas between India and China, we have always emphasised in discussions with the Chinese side that we consider these issues as most serious and that the maintenance of peace and tranquillity in these areas is of the utmost importance. We have also stated that the state of the border affairs will reflect on the state of our larger bilateral ties,” Mr. Jaiswal said.
On August 7, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu denied a fresh incursion, saying he would verify with the Army and local bodies.
The Army rejected identical claims in late June as “incorrect and without any basis”. However, Mr. Jaiswal reminded that “maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas is essential for the overall development of bilateral relations”.
“Due to the undemarcated nature of the boundary, patrols at times face off against each other. Such incidents are resolved through existing mechanisms and protocols. The Army and the ITBP are geared up to dominate the border and monitor and check Chinese activities,” an official source said regarding the defence capabilities of the Indian forces.
Mr. Jaiswal asserted that the importance of peace in the border areas was mentioned at the 36th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China border affairs (WMCC) held on August 6, 2026 . He added: “It was agreed to continue to use existing diplomatic and military channels, including the WMCC, local commander-level meetings and other agreed mechanisms, to resolve outstanding issues and avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation along the LAC”.
