The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has recommended Chief Justices to four High Courts. The Collegium, in a meeting held on August 6, the resolution of which was published on Sunday (August 9, 2026), has proposed new Chief Justices to the High Courts of Patna, Calcutta, Bombay and Punjab and Haryana.
Delhi High Court judge, Justice V. Kameswar Rao, has been recommended for elevation as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court. Justice Rao was appointed Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in April 2013 and became a Permanent Judge in March 2015. He was transferred to the Karnataka High Court in 2024 and repatriated to the Delhi High Court in July 2025.
Justice Ravindra V. Ghuge, a Bombay High Court judge, has been recommended for the Calcutta High Court Chief Justiceship. Justice Ghuge is presently serving as the acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court after the appointment of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar to the Supreme Court. He was elevated as a judge of the High Court in 2013.
The Collegium has proposed Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi, a judge of the Allahabad High Court, for elevation as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. Justice Tripathi was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court in September 2013 and made a Permanent Judge in April 2015.
Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, whose parent High Court is Allahabad and currently serving on the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bench, has been recommended for the Chief Justiceship of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He took the oath as an Additional Judge in February 2014 and was made a Permanent Judge in February 2016. Justice Mishra was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in July 2025.
