The Andhra Pradesh unit of the CPI(M) on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) condemned the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on the residences of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and called for State-wide protests against what it termed the “politically motivated actions” of the Central government.
In a statement, CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao alleged that the ED, functioning as a political instrument in the hands of the BJP, was being used to malign the CPI(M) and target opposition leaders.
He said the raids on Mr. Vijayan’s residences in Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram, immediately after he demitted office as Chief Minister, were “vindictive and undemocratic”.
The BJP-led Central government was misusing investigative agencies such as the ED, CBI and NIA to “harass opposition parties and suppress dissent”, he alleged.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the use of constitutional and investigative institutions for political purposes amounted to an abuse of democratic systems and federal principles.
He called on party cadres to organise protests across Andhra Pradesh, and urged people, democratic forces and intellectuals to condemn the ED raids and oppose the Centre’s “politics of vendetta”.
