Australia must stop applying a “double standard” to Israel on alleged war crimes and uphold the global rules-based order, legal experts warn, as pressure piles on the Albanese government to act decisively in response to a UN commission’s findings that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

The United Nations independent international commission of inquiry, which does not speak on behalf of the UN as a whole, found on Tuesday that “genocide is occurring in Gaza and is continuing to occur”, according to its chair, Navi Pillay.
