A federal judge on Thursday invalidated President Trump's efforts to terminate billions of dollars of Harvard University's federal funding, deeming the move illegal.
The blow to the administration comes as all eyes have turned back to the Jeffrey Epstein case as victims joined Reps. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) to speak out in support of the lawmakers’ discharge petition seeking to release files related to the late sex offender’s case.
As of Wednesday, just four Republicans have backed the move as the GOP urges its members to not sign on to the petition.
On Tuesday evening, the House Oversight Committee released files from the Justice Department. Most of the documents, including video, audio and court filings, had already been made public.
Meanwhile, fraught funding negotiations amid President Trump's move to claw back funding through a pocket recession are top of mind as a Sept. 30 shutdown deadline quickly approaches.
Congress will need to hammer out a stopgap measure. But this is easier said than done amid divisions over what this funding measure would look like and Democrats’ anger with the president and Republicans' agenda.
At the White House, President Trump met with Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki.
