Rajkot: A few areas of Rajkot and Jamnagar cities were declared cholera-hit after positive cases were reported on Thursday. A six-year-old boy from Lohanagar railway crossing on Gondal road in Rajkot was found infected with cholera. Six others suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting were under treatment.According to Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) the possible source of infection was contaminated water in the house water tank. RMC staff surveyed 448 houses in the vicinity and examined over 1,700 people. All patients are under treatment at home. RMC health team also provided guidance to maintain hygiene and distributed chlorine tablets. In Rajkot rural, after five suspected cholera deaths in Upleta last month, the health teams have screened over 72,000 people.In Jamnagar, the district collector declared four areas under Bedibandar Health Centre, Gandhivad Health Centre, Khojavad Health Centre and Vambe Health Centre as cholera hit. A notification under the Epidemic Diseases Act was also issued. tnn
