IPL 2023, RCB VS GT: Virat Kohli Breaks Chris Gayle’s Long-Standing Record; Becomes First Player In History To Score 7 IPL Tons

Virat Kohli became the first player in IPL history to score seven centuries and broke Chris Gayle’s record for the most centuries in IPL history. Kohli scored a knock of 101 runs in 61 balls to help RCB post 197 on the board in a must-win clash for them to reach the playoffs.

In another do-or-die game for Royal Challengers Bangalore , it was Virat Kohli who stepped up once again and helped his side post a massive total of 197 on the board with a brilliant unbeaten knock of 101 in 61 balls against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
By virtue of his brilliant knock, Kohli has become the first player to hit seven centuries in IPL history and broke Chris Gayle ‘s long-standing record to become the outright holder of the tag of having the most tons in IPL history.

Kohli is the third player in IPL history to score back-to-back centuries, after Shikhar Dhawan (2020) and Jos Buttler (2022). On Thursday (May 18), Kohli scored a memorable ton in an epic run chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to keep his team chance of qualifying for the playoffs alive.

Despite the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) victory earlier in the day, RCB just needs a win to ensure their place in the playoffs. While MI and RCB will finish with equal points, RCB have a better NRR than the five-time champions and hence will secure a fourth-place finish to set up a blockbuster eliminator against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, a defeat will knock RCB out of the competition.
