The Japanese carmaker Honda’s Indian subsidiary Honda Motors is gearing up to launch the 2023 model year facelifted iteration of its highly popular mid-size sedan the City. And in the most recent advancement, it has now been reported that the company will now be offering the new fifth-generation City in 9 variants. Additionally, it has also been reported that the model will most likely be launched in the coming March and its reservations will commence on the same day as its launch date.
According to Autocar India and their sources, once Honda commences the bookings for the new My2023 City Facelift it will be charging a booking amount of Rs 21,000. However, this amount will only be taken by the dealerships. Individuals who book their Honda City models via the company’s official website will be able to book it only for Rs 5,000. Additionally, it has also been reported that the new model will command a premium of Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.

Talking about the pricing of the new City facelift, the starting price of the forthcoming City will go down a little as the company is planning to launch an all-new base variant for the model. It has been reported that Honda will be launching an all-new entry-level SV trim, and this variant will only be available with a manual gearbox. Currently the City is offered in three variants – the V, VX and ZX. But with the addition of this new SV variant it will become a total of 4 main variants.
All of these four variants will come equipped with manual transmissions as standard but the company will also offer the V, VX and ZX variants with a CVT gearboxes. These transmissions will come mated to a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which will produce 121 PS of power and 145 Nm of torque as the current outgoing model. This engine will now be RDE-compliant.
Furthermore reports have also suggested that there will be an addition of a newer base variant to the City e:HEV the hybrid model of the fifth gen sedan. This new variant will be called the V variant and will slot below the top-of-the-line ZX trim. As for the details of this new variant the information is pretty limited but one thing that is confirmed is that it will come powered by the same 1.5-liter, four-cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine coupled to two electric motors. The City e:HEV gets a combined range of 1,000 km range and a 26.5 kpl stated fuel efficiency. T he City hybrid sedan emphasizes electric-only mode in start/stop situations thanks to the powertrain’s connection to an eCVT transmission and a battery pack in the trunk. Altogether, the engine generates 126 horsepower and 253 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.
As for one of the biggest highlights of the new facelifted version of the City fifth gen it will come equipped with the much anticipated ADAS functionalities. The list of new safety features will include, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and autonomous emergency braking. Additionally the sedans top-spec variants will also come equipped with six airbags, ORVM-mounted lane-watch cameras, a multi-angle rear-view camera. Furthermore it will get a tyre pressure monitoring system (TMPS), vehicle stability assist, hill-start assist and ISOFIX-compatible rear seats as well.
