Yami Gautam Stars in Landmark Legal Drama

In April 1978, 62-year-old Shah Bano Begum, approached the Supreme Court seeking maintenance under Section 125 of the CrPC after her divorce through triple talaq.

Her husband, Mohd. Ahmed Khan, argued against it, claiming that Muslim Personal Law only required him to provide support during the ‘iddat’ period.

After a seven-year legal fight, the Supreme Court ruled in Shah Bano’s favour in April 1985.

Four decades later, this landmark case of Mohd. Ahmad Khan v. Shah Bano Begum is going to be made into a movie. According to media reports, Yami Gautam will star in the film.

After the massive theatrical and critical success of her film Article 370, Yami will play Shah Bano, bringing on-screen the brave story of her seven-year-long legal battle.

The story is inspired by an unpublished book by Jigna Vora, whose memoir, Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison, inspired the 2023 Netflix series ‘Scoop.’

The film will be produced by Junglee Pictures in collaboration with Vishal Gurnani and Juhi Parekh Mehta of Insomnia Media, who also produced Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, and Harman Baweja under his Baweja Studios banner.

The director of renowned shows like The Family Man Season 2, Rana Naidu, and The Trial- Suparn Verma, will be helming this project.

Meanwhile, Reshu Nath, who has previously worked on Illegal and Heera Mandi, has written the script.

The film is yet to be titled, and any more details about it are under wraps for now.

Besides a film on the Shah Bano case, Yami has other projects in the pipeline. She is set to feature in the romantic comedy, Dhoom Dhaam, co-starring Pratik Gandhi.
