If there’s one word that is suited best to describe the Paris Olympics 2024, it has to be ‘controversial’. It looks like the games have made way for everything else at the center stage. An Egyptian athlete has been arrested by the police in Paris on charges of sexual assault. The prosecutor’s office in Paris released a statement informing the public about his arrest.
The athlete was a part of the wrestling contingent of the Egypt team and had also won a bronze medal in his weight category. The police made the arrest in front of cafe where he was accused of sexual assault. The police have informed that the man allegedly tried to touch a woman inappropriately.

The Egyptian contingent later confirmed about the arrest of the man. The disturbing news has shook everyone and the ethics committee is going to decide on the future of the athlete. If he is proven guilty, he might get barred from participating in both domestic and international events.
The news has brought shame to the Egyptian team and there’s a demand for strict action against this conduct. It has also highlighted how sexual predators can be present anywhere and in anyone despite their achievements and qualifications. Sexual assault by athletes is not a new thing and there have been many high profile cases related to it.
