A woman and her two-year-old son were crushed to death after a Metro pillar under construction collapsed Tuesday morning on the Hennur main road in Bengaluru, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Tejaswini, 35, who worked at Manyata Tech Park, and her son Vihan. According to traffic police officials, Tejaswini was travelling with her husband Lohith and their twin children – daughter and son – on a motorcycle off the Hennur main road at around 10.30 am when the Metro pillar along the Nagawara line crashed to the ground. Lohith and their daughter sustained minor injuries.

Traffic police officers said the woman and her son were rushed to Altius Hospital nearby, but were pronounced dead at around 11 am. They added that the son succumbed to head injuries while Tejaswini died due to internal bleeding.

Sources said Lohith is an engineer working in Vijayanagar. The family, which hails from Gadag, currently resides in Hennur. The police said Lohith was taking Tejaswini to her workplace when the incident occurred.
