Thalapathy Vijay, currently celebrating the release of his latest film The Greatest Of All Time, has announced that his next movie, Thalapathy 69, will be his final film before he fully transitions into politics. Following this, he plans to focus on his political career.

Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has recently received official recognition from the Election Commission.

Does this mean he will never return to the cinema?

It’s uncertain. While he may or may not return, there’s a good chance he could. We’ve seen similar cases in Tollywood where actors continued their film careers even after entering politics.

For instance, Chiranjeevi, who had retired from films in 2007 to focus on politics, made a successful return to cinema after his political career faced miserable failure. He is now doing great as an actor.

Pawan is still actively involved as an actor in films despite becoming the Deputy CM of AP.

If Vijay’s political journey doesn’t pan out as hoped, particularly if he doesn’t become Chief Minister in 2026, he might make a comeback to films. If he does make a comeback to films, that film would carry separate hype surrounding his return at that time.

Actors venturing into politics and then returning to films is not unusual and definitely not wrong. The pull of cinema is strong, and many find it hard to stay away from it for too long. An actor cannot be away from cinema for too long no matter how hard he tries.
