Political thrillers and biopics are not uncommon in Bollywood. A few of them have impressed the audience and the others failed. Many such films are currently in the production stage and one of them is finally scheduled to arrive on the big screen after facing multiple delays.

Emergency, which features Kangana Ranaut in the lead, has finally managed to lock in a release date of September 6, 2024. The official trailer is out now and it offers us a brief outline of what we can expect.
The political drama will cover everything that happened during the state of emergency that was declared back in the 70s in India. The latest glimpse begins with a shot of Ranaut delivering a few powerful dialogues as the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. This is followed by sequences where we get to see the dirty politics that have not witnessed an end until today.

There is a moment where we see Indira Gandhi working for public welfare and an anonymous person can be heard speaking in the background that “no one is loyal when it comes to politics.”
Furthermore, the audiences are introduced to Shreyas Talpade and Milind Soman, who portray Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Sam Manekshaw respectively. There are more intense moments, including a few scenes of war and how Indira Gandhi’s chair is in danger of being taken over by someone else.

Shreyas Talpade can also be heard delivering some hard-hitting dialogues and there are multiple sequences featuring protests. Above all these, Kangana Ranaut tries her best to bring Indira Gandhi alive on the screen. But time will tell if her attempts are a success or a failure.
Kangana Ranaut is listed among those actors of today’s world who are struggling to deliver a hit. She has given five flops in a row since 2021, starting with Thalaivii. Her last film, Tejas, could not bring any audience to the big screen with shows being canceled in most parts of India.
Overall, it can be said with conviction that Ranaut’s condition is not so good and there is hardly anyone who would rush to the theatre to watch her film. Although Emergency features a lineup of some talented faces, they are not enough to increase the hype and contribute to the film’s success.
Ranaut can make her way back to the old form only if she collaborates with a big star. But that seems impossible for now considering her reported feuds with fellow co-stars over the years.
Three films are releasing this week, including Stree 2, which is expected to take a huge opening from paid previews. This has hinted at the fact that the horror comedy will remain in theatres for around 4-5 weeks. If this turns out to be true, there is a possibility that Emergency might be ignored.
