In a disturbing case from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, a man’s death initially believed to be due to a heart attack has turned out to be a murder.
Deepak Kumar, a 29-year-old railway technician, died during a religious ceremony at his home in Najibabad on April 4. His wife, Shivani, claimed he had suffered a heart attack. However, Deepak’s family, suspicious due to his status as a government employee, insisted on a post-mortem before performing the last rites.

The autopsy report, released on April 6, revealed that Deepak had been strangled. Following this revelation, police arrested Shivani and registered a case against her and an unidentified accomplice.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Shivani had allegedly administered sleeping pills to Deepak before strangling him. She later tried to pass off the death as a medical emergency.

The couple, who had a love marriage in June 2023, were parents to a six-month-old child. Deepak had joined the railways in March 2023 after leaving his job in the CRPF to settle down.
His family suspects Shivani murdered him to claim his railway job. They allege she was hostile towards her in-laws and had even physically abused Deepak’s mother.

Deepak’s brother, Piyush, said Shivani informed him of the supposed heart attack but refused a post-mortem, which deepened his suspicions. Police continue to investigate the possible involvement of another individual.
Shivani is currently in custody and facing murder charges. Authorities say legal action will proceed based on further evidence.
The case has shocked the local community and serves as a chilling reminder of how trust and love can sometimes end in betrayal and violence.
