Global Entry is a program that enables travelers to bypass lengthy immigration lines at U.S. airports by using automated kiosks for quicker entry.
This is particularly beneficial for individuals on H1B visas, who frequently encounter long wait times at immigration. After enduring long flights from India, the Middle East, or African nations, waiting for hours in line can be quite draining.

The good news is that many people — particularly H1B visa holders– are opting for Global entry to simplify and speed up their travel experience. If you are an Indian citizen, whether o an f1 or H1B visa, you’re in luck!
One traveler, arriving at Newark Airport (EWR) from India, recounted their experience. Upon entering the airport, they were met with a massive line at immigration. Several international flights had just landed, including many from India, where numerous H1B travelers were headed. The wait time was displayed as 38 minutes, but realistically, it could stretch to an hour or more, especially with language barriers, large families, and the typically slow pace of the process.

This is where Global Entry proves invaluable. The traveler having enrolled in the program, headed straight to the Global Entry line. There were only three people ahead of them, and each took less than 10 seconds to get through. When it was their turn, they stood in front of the kiosk, which scanned their face and passport.
No forms or extra paperwork- just a quick scan. The kiosk instructed them to proceed, and the immigration officer merely glanced at their passport for two seconds before waving them through. The entire process took less than 45 seconds.

Applying for Global Entry isn’t overly complicated, but it does involve meeting a few eligibility criteria. You need to be at least 18 years old, possess a valid passport, and ensure your visa is in order. The process includes a background check and an interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center. However, once you’re approved, the benefits are significant.
For those of us already managing the complexities of life on an H1B visa, this small step can skip hours of waiting and stress at the airport.
Global Entry isn’t just a convenience; it’s a way to reclaim some of your time and peace of mind. It’s not merely about getting through the airport faster, it’s about making your travel experience better.
