Why Former CID Chief Sunil Kumar Deleted the Tweet?

The recent charge memo issued by the AP state government to former CID Chief PV Sunil Kumar stems from his July 12 tweet, which allegedly violated All India Service Rules. Sunil Kumar had posted on social media in response to a case filed by Undi MLA Raghu Rama Krishna Raju (RRR), accusing Sunil Kumar, PSR Anjaneyulu, and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of torturing him.

The FIR was lodged at the Nagarampalem police station based on RRR’s complaint. However, Sunil Kumar pointed out in his tweet that the Supreme Court had dismissed the case, questioning why an FIR was filed against him. The government viewed Sunil Kumar’s post as an attempt to threaten the police and distort court judgments, which led to the notice being issued.

Despite not directly criticizing the government, Sunil Kumar’s comments were perceived as violating the rules of conduct expected of a senior IPS officer. His post raised concerns about undermining legal proceedings and influencing the police who were following the law. A significant aspect of this incident is the deletion of Sunil Kumar’s tweet from his social media account.

This action has sparked questions about whether the tweet was removed voluntarily or under pressure, as the content itself does not appear to be unconstitutional. The deletion has raised curiosity about whether there was concern about potential repercussions or if there were other factors at play that led to its removal.

The charge memo and the deletion of the tweet together highlight the sensitive relationship between the government, the judiciary, and law enforcement, especially in politically charged situations like the case involving RRR. Sunil Kumar now faces the task of providing an explanation, with the outcome likely to impact the dynamics within the state’s administrative and legal framework.
