Vetrimaaran, known for his hard-hitting, socially-driven films, has been a favorite of NTR’s, as the actor himself mentioned in a Chennai press meet recently.
However, while Vetrimaaran is critically acclaimed, his films primarily cater to the Tamil audience and focus heavily on themes of oppression. This may not resonate with the larger mass fanbase that NTR commands, particularly in the Telugu market.

Vetrimaaran’s pan-India reach has also been limited, raising concerns about the box-office viability of such a collaboration. Fans fear that a partnership between the two could result in a similar disappointment to Rajinikanth’s films Kabali and Kaala, where director Pa Ranjith’s style clashed with the audience’s expectations for a Rajinikanth movie.
On the other hand, Nelson, who recently directed Jailer, seems to be a more promising choice for NTR.

Nelson has a proven ability to balance commercial elements with quirky storytelling, offering a blend of action, humor, and drama. His films, like Jailer, are known for maximizing a star’s potential, even with simple scripts, and delivering high-energy moments that excite fans.
Nelson’s mainstream appeal, along with his knack for creating mass entertainment, might make him the safer and more commercially viable option for NTR’s next big project.
Both directors have their strengths and weaknesses, but going from a box office point of view, Nelson might be a better choice for NTR.
While working with Vetrimaaran might fulfill NTR’s creative desires, Nelson seems to be the more strategic choice for maintaining his mass appeal and box office success.
