When Will TDP Gain Majority In The Council?

Marri Rajasekhar quit YSR Congress and also resigned from his MLC post.

Marri was a close confidante of Jagan Mohan Reddy and he is in the party since Day-1. But then, Marri was forced to leave the party.

In the 2014 elections, Marri was given a ticket from Chilakaluripet but he was defeated in that election.

He did not get a chance in 2019. Jagan gave a chance to Vidadala Rajini, who had joined the party just before that.

Marri Rajasekhar was nominated to the Council in 2023. He was promised a Cabinet Berth but Jagan did not honor it.

Although he was hoping for a ticket from Chilakaluripet in the 2024 elections, Marri was disappointed once again and it seems that he has been deeply unhappy since then.

However, even after the 2024 elections, Rajini was given the responsibility of in charge of Chilakaluripet, which made Marri Rajasekhar even more impatient and finally, he resigned.

Marri was sent to the Council through the MLAs Quota in 2023 and his tenure is until March 2029.

That means there is a good four years term left and it will be interesting to see who will get that.

So far including Marri, five YSR Congress MLCs have resigned. Council Chairman Koyye Moshen Raju is sitting on the Resignations to benefit YSR Congress.

Three YSR Congress MLCs have once again asked the Chairman to accept their resignations.

YSR Congress has an overwhelming majority in the Council. The party is trying to safeguard that majority using its Chairman.

It is interesting to note that Koyye Moshen Raju’s tenure is ending in June 2027.

If the Ruling Government has to get its candidate as the Chairman by then, it should attain a majority in the Council.

It has to be seen if Moshen Raju can sit on the resignations forever.

Jagan Mohan Reddy boycotted the Assembly since he was not given the Leader of the Opposition Status.

Since there is no YSR Congress voice in the Assembly, the party is trying to trouble the Government using its majority in the Council.

So, the Council is very important for the YSR Congress.

If that is also lost and with the Assembly boycott, YSR Congress will lose its voice completely.

Besides gaining the majority, getting the Chairman’s post is also important.
