According to a report in
WABetaInfo, if a user spots any suspicious message or media file uploaded by another user as a status update which might violate WhatsApp’s Terms of Service, they can report it using the new feature.
The status update will be reported to the moderation team with the help of the new feature. Just like how it works when one reports a message on the platform, similar way the status update will be reported and sent forward to the company for moderation reasons so they can see if the status update really falls under any violation or not.
However, this feature does not break end-to-end encryption. Nobody, not even WhatsApp and Meta, can see the content of users’ messages and listen to their private calls, but it is important for the company to bring a report option to keep the platform and users safe.
The ability to report status updates is under development and will be released in a future update of WhatsApp Desktop beta, the report said.
Meanwhile, last month, the messaging platform had rolled out a new feature to some beta testers that allows users to see profile photos within group chats on a desktop.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is rolling out the ‘Accidental Delete’ tool which will give users a five-second window to reverse the accidental message delete.
Several times users on WhatsApp end up deleting a message that was sent to someone or in a group by mistake. Often, they delete the message just for themselves when they had meant to choose ‘Delete for Everyone’.
This new feature will be useful to rectify such mistakes on WhatsApp.
