WhatsApp to bring automatic chat translation in fresh beta update: Report – Technology News

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to automatically translate messages within chats, according to a recent update to the app’s Android beta program (version 2.24.15.9) reported by WaBetaInfo.

This long-awaited functionality will eliminate the need for external translation apps, allowing hurdle-free communication across language barriers.

Previously, reports suggested WhatsApp might leverage Google’s live translation technology. However, the latest update indicates the company is developing its own in-house solution to ensure seamless integration and prioritise user privacy. This will keep message translation entirely on-device, maintaining end-to-end encryption and eliminating the need to send messages to external servers.

While the feature is still under development, the beta update reveals an option for users to enable automatic translation for all chats. Initially, support will be available for a limited set of languages, including English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi. More languages are expected to be added in future updates.

This development marks a significant step towards more inclusive communication on WhatsApp. Users can expect to see this feature rolled out in a future update, though a specific timeframe hasn’t been announced yet.
