WhatsApp Android Users Can Now Try Locked Chats On Their Linked Devices: Here’s How

WhatsApp has been planning to offer locked chats and more devices for its users, especially on the web version. But for now, the security feature is available on Android in the beta avatar if you have linked the WhatsApp account to one more phone.

Meta rolled out the ability to lock chats; this added an extra layer of security on top of already existing device biometrics, preventing others from accessing them. In the new Android beta version, WhatsApp chats are automatically locked on a linked device when they are locked on the main device.

WhatsApp Chat Lock On Linked Devices: How To Make It Work

The new Android version 2.24.11.9 in beta is testing the feature with select users as of now. The screenshot of the feature being tested has been shared by Wabetainfo this week, and over here, you can clearly see the Locked Chat folder at the top of the WhatsApp main screen of the Linked Device.

The crucial part of the new tool is that the current chat lock PIN will not work for the Linked Device, so you will have to create a secret code from the primary device settings to make it work. “Once they configure the secret code, their protected conversations will disappear from the chats list on their linked devices and can be exclusively accessed through the locked chats screen,” the tipster points out.

The beta version also seems to have indicated that one secret code set up on the primary WhatsApp account device can be sync across all the linked devices, so that you don’t have to set it up for each device.

WhatsApp locked chats have only been compatible with your phones, so if you used the WhatsApp web version on a browser, the locked chats were automatically visible to everyone. Bringing this feature to the messaging app will solve that problem altogether and give people more reasons to link their devices to WhatsApp accounts and not worry about the data being exposed.
