That would be it. You can put away your thinking hats. The calculators can be switched off. After weeks and weeks of anticipation and build up, the squad of 2023 is finally here. Let’s just introduce you to our newest additions into our #OneFamily.Â
Cameron Green: From the stables of monster hitting and more-than-useful medium pacers, Mumbai Indians have their next big all-rounder in their backyard. Cameron Green, the big Western Australian, after a fierce bidding war with the Delhi Capitals, is officially with us. His career has seen peak after peak. From impressing on his Test debut, to impressing in the Ashes, to unleashing a proper ball-basher against the Indians, to grabbing a spot in Australia’s T20 squad for the 2022 World Cup, to landing a massive IPL deal now, and trust us, this is just the start!Â
Jhye Richardson: The ‘J’ factor gets stronger. Jasprit, Jofra, Jason, and now Jhye. It’s a proper pace bowling quartet. The Wankhede with all its pace and bounce, always has a special spot for people bowling over 150ks, and Richardson, another Western Australian, is going to absolutely love unleashing his thunderbolts in the midst of a supreme attack.
Piyush Chawla: The wily old warrior is back with us after 2021. Leg-breaks, googlies, top-spinners, darts at 120ks, super useful runs at the death, oh, he’s the complete package. With a pretty young spin attack, this 34-year-old is just the dose of experience we needed.Â
Duan Jansen: A net bowler to a Mumbai Indians bowler. If you’re looking for a heartwarming story, look no further. Duan Jansen, the twin brother of former MI bowler, Marco Jansen, at 6 feet 8 inches, and a high-arm zippy action with the ability to bowl consistently at over 140 clicks, is set to get batsmen hopping around.
Nehal Wadhera: The young 22-year-old Punjab batter, a part of India’s under-19 squad in 2019, is all set to join an illustrious list of Rohit Sharma, SKY, Ishan Kishan, Dewald Brevis, et al.
Raghav Goyal: Straight out of Mumbai Indians’ school of unearthing some seriously raw talent, Raghav Goyal is that surprise of this 2023 season. A leftie batter, a left-handed orthodox spinner, he is this season’s surprise package.
Shams Mulani: Mumbaicha mulga comes home! After years and years of toil in the domestic scene, and after adding skill after skill to his repository, Shams Mulani, the local boy, the all-rounder, is all set to join the MI ranks. He’s street-smart with his left-arm deliveries, and can tonk them big at will. At the Wankhede, right down his backyard, he’ll be bang at home.
Vishnu Vinod: The Kerala connect! A solid wicket-keeper, and an experienced middle-order batter, Vishnu Vinod, last, but certainly not the least, completes our squad of 24. There’s nothing better than ending a special day at work, fully satisfied.Â
