Weight Loss Horror: Dangerous Diet Kills Teen

An 18-year-old girl from Kerala passed away after following an extreme diet consisting only of hot water for several months. Identified as Sree Nanda, she had reportedly stopped consuming solid food and was severely underweight, weighing just 24 kg at the time of her death.

Doctors at Thalassery Cooperative Hospital stated that the girl was suffering from anorexia, a severe eating disorder characterized by an intense fear of gaining weight.

At last she was admitted to the ICU 12 days before her death, in a critical condition. Her blood sugar levels, sodium levels, and blood pressure were dangerously low, and she required ventilator support. Despite medical efforts, she did not recover and succumbed to her condition.

According to her family, she had been following the extreme diet for the past five to six months, influenced by online weight loss advice. She reportedly refused to eat, hid food given to her, and relied only on hot water for sustenance.

Concerned about her deteriorating health, her family had taken her to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital two months ago, where doctors had advised psychiatric consultation.

Medical experts emphasize the need for timely intervention and proper awareness to prevent such cases of extreme dieting in the future.
