Chandigarh in severe heatwave’s grip; orange alert issued
The city experienced a severe heatwave on Saturday, with temperatures soaring eight degrees above normal in some areas, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Similar conditions are expected to continue in the coming days. IMD has issued an orange warning for Sunday and Monday, advising people to stay prepared.
On Saturday, the maximum temperature at the Sector 39 IMD observatory was 43.8°C, down slightly from 44°C on Friday but still 7.2 degrees above normal. Meanwhile, at the airport observatory, the temperature reached 44.9°C, which is 8.3 degrees above normal, indicating severe heatwave conditions at both locations.
