After a hectic first half of 2024, Rohit Sharma is ready to cool off and recharge his batteries with a family vacation. The Indian cricket team has been playing non-stop cricket since the start of the year that included the recent T20 World Cup which they won beating South Africa in the final.

Rohit left for the much-deserved vacation with his wife Ritika and daughter Samaira on Saturday.

Rohit realised his dream of winning a world cup last month. In 2023, he came agonisingly close to ending India’s ICC title drought when he led them into the finals of ICC World Test Championship and then ODI World Cup.

However, on both occasions, India finished runners-up.

At the 2024 T20 World Cup, he oversaw another dominant campaign with India storming into the final unbeaten. The contest went into the last over where South Africa needed 16 runs.

The victorious squad was given quite a reception upon returning from Barbados as they first met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi before flying to Mumbai for a victory parade.

“On behalf of my team and BCCI, I would like to thank the fans. For the last 11 years, they have wanted the trophy back in India. As much desperation we had to win the trophy, the fans had it a bit more,” Rohit said during a felicitation ceremony organised by BCCI at the Wankhede Stadium.

Suryakumar Yadav took a stunning catch of David Miller in the last over which all but sealed the fate of the final in India’s favour.

“I was at long-on, Surya was at long off and of course Hardik was bowling. Hats off to him for bowling that last over. No matter how many runs you need, there is always pressure to bowl that over,” Rohit said.

“When the pressure is there, those catches need to be taken and all the moments of training come into your mind. And at that moment it was a brilliant effort from him to take the catch,” he added.
