Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, will hold the 18th round of China-Russia strategic security consultation in Russia from September 18 to 21, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, is making the visit at the invitation of Secretary Nikolai Patrushev of the Russian Security Council.
Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Monday, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, noted that China and Russia are each other’s largest neighbor and comprehensive strategic partners of coordination for a new era, as well as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and major emerging markets.
“Both sides have always maintained close communication on major strategic and overall issues of common concern,” said Mao.
She added, Wang’s visit is a “routine event” within the framework of China-Russia strategic security consultation, with the aim to “implementing the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, promoting the development of bilateral relations, and conducting in-depth communication on important issues involving the strategic security interests of the two countries.”
