She was supposed to participate in the final of women’s wrestling in the freestyle 50 kg category, but she was disqualified as she was 100 grams more than the weight limit.
Distraught by the news, Vinesh announced her retirement from wrestling. Later, she filed an appeal Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to at least award her a joint silver medal.

Meanwhile, Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), stated that it is impossible to award two silver medals in the same category, per the rules. However, he said that IOC will follow the order passed by CAS.
On the other side, United World Wrestling president Nenad Lalovic sympathized with Vinesh for whatever happened to her. But he said that they had to follow the rules, no matter what. He said Vinesh was not the only player who was disqualified due to the wrestling rules in this year’s Olympics.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has been supporting Vinesh in her legal battle and is hopeful for a favourable verdict.
The CAS held the trial of Vinesh’s appeal yesterday and lawyers from both sides presented their arguments. The verdict was supposed to be delivered yesterday at 6 pm Paris time (09.30 pm IST).
However, the CAS deferred its verdict to August 11. The final judgement is expected to come out by 09.30 pm today.
Going by the statements of IOC and United World Wrestling officials, there is no chance of getting a medal but there is a slim hope of getting this impossible judgement.
Hopefully, billions of prayers work in favour of Vinesh and she gets a silver medal for all the hard work she has done.
