Vincy Aloshious expresses disdain for working with actors who use drugs: ‘Why create an uncomfortable workspace?’ | Malayalam News

Actor Vincy Aloshious recently expressed her reluctance to work with co-stars who allegedly use drugs on set. Incidentally, Malayalam cinema has been plagued with various instances of actors and technicians indulging in drug abuse, both on and off the set. In such circumstances, Vincy, at an anniversary event of the KCYM Ernakulam-Angamaly Major Archdiocese, said, “If I am aware that someone is doing drugs, I will not act in any film with them.”

Taking to social media to elucidate her stand, Vincy said that this decision came from the experiences she faced on the sets of one of her films where she had to share screen space with an actor, who was allegedly using drugs. “I was working in a film where one of the main actors used drugs and behaved inappropriately. It wasn’t easy to work with him,” said Vincy, who also opened up about two particular instances that made her decide to never work with drug-using actors.

“There was an issue with my costume, and I was on the way to get it fixed. And out of nowhere, he insisted on accompanying me, and helping me get the dress ready. This was told in front of everyone, and it made the situation all the more uncomfortable,” said the Jana Gana Mana actor, who elaborated on a rehearsal session that laid bare the drug-using habits of her co-star. “Something white spilled from his mouth on to the table, and it was clear that he was using drugs on set. See, it’s one thing to use drugs in personal life, but to use it at your workplace, and making it uncomfortable for everyone around you is completely unacceptable.”

Reiterating her stance on never working with actors who consume drugs, Vincy Aloshious said, “I don’t want to work with someone who isn’t conscious of their actions, and the kind of repercussions it can have on the workplace and colleagues. This isn’t something I am willing to compromise on.”

Understanding that her open statements about drug abuse in the film industry might result in opportunities drying up for her, especially since this is a scathing indictment of the functioning of the Malayalam film industry, she said, “Maybe, I don’t get enough opportunities in films, but let me say it once again, if I am aware someone is using drugs, I will not act in any film with them.”
