Vijayendra in Delhi as BJP’s Karnataka unit fights dissidence

Amid faction fights and dissidence within the party, BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra rushed to New Delhi on Friday. Sources said he was meeting certain leaders in the party’s high command to discuss the emerging situation within the party’s State unit.

Former Ministers B. Sriramulu and G. Janardhana Reddy have been openly trading charges, amid speculations that the former may be poached by the ruling Congress. BJP national president J. P. Nadda had called Mr. Sriramulu and tried to pacify him, sources said.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has also been trying to broker peace between the friends-turned-foes, sources said. The party is keen not to lose Mr. Sriramulu, a prominent leader of the Scheduled Tribes (Valmiki) community and Mr. Vijayendra is also part of firefighting.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently announced that there would be an election to the State unit chief’s post, igniting the faction fight between Mr. Vijayendra and rebel group led by Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal.
