While many might not recognize his name immediately, they would certainly know him as the man behind the heart-touching film 96. Recently, he also directed Sathyam Sundaram (Meiyazhagan), a film that beautifully portrays human relationships.

Prem Kumar has always excelled in making emotionally charged films that leave a lasting impact on the audience.
Though Meiyazhagan received positive reactions in theaters, it didn’t perform as well in terms of box office as expected. However, once it hit OTT, it found a new audience, with many viewers rewatching it, not just in South but on pan-India level.

One viewer, deeply moved by the film, expressed regret for not watching it in theaters and even offered to send money to the producer through Google Pay as a token of appreciation.
Prem Kumar shared this with surprise, reflecting on how the film might have performed better if it had received more support during its theatrical run. For the director, it was a bittersweet realization—Meiyazhagan’s true value was only fully recognized after its OTT release.

He remarked that people should have supported the film by watching it in theaters, rather than offering to send money after seeing it on OTT platforms.
On another note, Prem Kumar is also working on a sequel to 96, with the story almost complete. However, he’s yet to decide on the cast.
The Telugu adaptation of 96, titled Jaanu, was a commercial failure, so it’s likely the sequel will be dubbed into Telugu rather than remade.
