IndiGo flight 5053 landed on Runway 27 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport while Air India flight 657 was still taking off.

Two flights came dangerously close to each other on a runway of the Mumbai airport on Saturday evening.

A flight belonging to carrier IndiGo landed on the Runway 27 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport while an Air India flight was still taking off.

The near miss incident involved two Airbus A320neos. The IndiGo flight 5053 was flying in from Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport (IDR) and was landing on Runway 27 while the Air India flight 657 was taking off for Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TRV), aviation news outlet Simple Flying said in a report.

Their report said that the Air India Airbus was able to get airborne and was able to take off without incident but was likely unaware of the other plane approaching it from behind.

“On Jun 8, 2024, IndiGo flight 6E 6053 from Indore was given landing clearance by ATC at Mumbai Airport. The Pilot in Command continued the approach and landing and followed ATC instructions. At IndiGo, passenger safety is paramount to us, and we have reported the incident as per procedure,” IndiGo said in a statement to the aviation news outlet.

On November 17 last year, two IndiGo planes came dangerously close to each other. This happened as they were climbing out of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.
