However, despite Vettaiyan having a dream cast that includes Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, and Ritika Singh, along with a chartbuster song, it failed to collect even Tier 3 Telugu hero numbers in the U.S.
Saturday: $24K
Friday: $27K
Premiere + Day 1: $96K
Vettaiyan’s Telugu version total: $147K in 4 days for a Rajini film shows how outright this film has been avoided by Telugu audiences.

The reason is quite simple: it is the film’s output and mediocre content that resulted in absolutely zero word of mouth.
Even if the film’s content is average, having a director like this and a cast of stars, students in the U.S. would easily generate half a million.

It is sad to see a director who delivered such a memorable film like Jai Bhim fail to deliver a single memorable moment in Vettaiyan, despite having so many stellar performances at his disposal from Rajinikanth, Amitabh, Fahad, etc.
As we said in our review, when you make a commercial film, go for it, but don’t pretend to deliver a message. If you want to create a nice emotional drama with a message, go the Jai Bhim route; don’t pretend for the box office. Such attempts will not work these days.
