Vettaiyan First Day Box Office: Rajini’s Fourth Biggest!

Vettaiyan First Day Box Office: Rajini’s Fourth Biggest!

Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel and featuring a star-studded cast including Rajinikanth, Manju Warrier, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati, is poised to become the second-biggest opener in Kollywood this year, following The Greatest Of All Time.

Although Vettaiyan is considered a relatively subtle film for Rajinikanth, it has still managed to attract considerable attention, and its performance in the coming days will be closely watched.

Initial estimates suggest Vettaiyan will gross between Rs 60-65 crore globally on its opening day, with about Rs 35 crore expected from India alone.

International collections are projected to contribute an additional USD 3 million, helping to reach this total. However, expectations were higher, with many anticipating that the film would surpass Rs 75 crore on its debut.

Vettaiyan couldn’t achieve this figure due to the subject not being very mass-appealing and the trailer and promotional material couldn’t create much excitement.

Tamil Nadu is leading Vettaiyan’s business, expected to account for over 50% of the opening-day collections.

Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh/Telangana together are projected to add around Rs 9-10 crore, while Kerala is estimated to contribute around Rs 6 crore.

The reception in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh has been relatively ordinary. In Hindi, the collections would struggle to cross the 1 crore mark.

While Rajinikanth has had bigger openers in the past, such as 2.0, Kabali, and Jailer, Vettaiyan is currently his fourth-biggest opener.
