    Fritz to serve first

Sinner wins the coin toss as Fritz incorrectly calls heads and the world No.1 will receive first at the Arthur Ashe stadium.

    Here we go…

Out come the two dreaming players into a cocophony of noise as those in attendance wait to see a new US Open champion crowned.

The majority of that noise is understandably for home favourite Taylor Fritz, but there is some Italian support on display for Sinner who is looking to further build on his world No.1 status.

We’ll be getting the match underway shortly and you won’t miss a swing of the action with Mail Sport’s live updates.

Jannik Sinner: ‘This is a special occasion’

Jannik Sinner has just been speaking before heading out to the court. He knows the task at hand, beating an American on his own turf, but hopes are high for him.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: ‘I feel like every final is different, happy to be here, this is a special occasion. The crowd has been amazing, very fair, playing against an American is not easy but it’s normal in New York.

    Plenty of support for Fritz

    Tennis royalty in the house

Maria Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam winner, has been snapped arriving at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre.

Sharapova famously won the US Open once in 2006, when she beat Justine Henin in straight sets.

She’ll be hoping for a fantastic game of tennis this evening!

    ICYMI: Sabalenka wins women’s singles

If tonight’s clash is anything like the women’s singles final between Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pergula, well then we are in for a treat.

The Belarusian emerged victorious 7-5 7-5 to beat the American in what was an intense battle – and it ensured redemption for Sabalenka after her defeat in the final last year.

The home crowd at Flushing Meadows will be hoping for better luck for Fritz this evening.

Mail Sport’s Matt Lambert was in attendance last night and you can read his report on the action below…
