The 2024 US elections are making history in more than one way. It will not only witness an Indian-American running for the top leadership in the United States for the first time but it might see the highest number of people take part in it as well.

Let’s understand some numbers behind the historic clash between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. This year marks the record number of eligible voters with 244 million adults ready to pass their verdict on the next president.

In 2020, 159 million people used their voting rights which was more than 66 percent of the total voters. This was the highest turnout in more than a century!

However, as this year’s election is hanging on a tightrope both parties are actively pursuing people to go out and vote. This could result in another record-breaking voter turnout on November 5.

There 7 swing states that could decide the elections: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Both Kamala Harris and Trump are focusing hard on these states as just a few votes can make all the difference.

Another important number is the poll workers that conduct the electoral process. In 2020, about 774,000 workers stepped up to help but this year, in an environment of misinformation they are facing danger.

Following Trump’s claims of election fraud last time, the helpers became the victim of public outrage on the ground. Many poll workers report facing pressure and getting threats from the public.

Nonetheless, the last leg of US elections is in full swing and the whole world will be watching who prevails as the next US president on November 5.
