UK Man Accused Of Choking Dancer Girlfriend To Death In Sex Game Gone Wrong

In February 2022, a “sex game” gone wrong led to the death of a 26-year-old professional UK dancer and subsequently the suicide of her boyfriend. Georgia Brooke died after her 31-year-old boyfriend, Luke Cannon, choked her during a sexual encounter at his home in West Yorkshire.

The British couple had consumed cocaine and a nervous system depressant called GHB. After Brooke passed out, Cannon panicked and called emergency services. She was rushed to the hospital but died from cardiac arrest. West Yorkshire Police launched a murder probe and began searching for Cannon, who went missing soon after. He was later found hanging in a forest near the hospital.

After an investigation into both deaths concluded on Wednesday, Georgia’s mother, Samantha Beaumont, blamed her daughter’s partner, accusing Luke of being “controlling” and “coercive” and of dictating what she wore, UK’s Daily Mail reported. She said her daughter’s behaviour changed after she started dating Cannon in 2021. However, Cannon’s brother described him as a “generous person” who “genuinely cared” for Brooke.

UK MP Laura Farris said, “The Georgia Brooke case is yet another appalling example of the normalisation of strangulation. Last night I announced a change in the law that will always make punishments more severe for this kind of homicide. It’s too late for Georgia but it’s her I’m thinking of today.”

According to the British media reports, text messages revealed that Brooke had previously consented to ‘choking’ during their sexual activities. Despite this, a UK court ruled her death as an “unlawful killing,” noting Cannon used “excessive” force. The post-mortem determined the principal cause of death was “forceful and prolonged” neck compression.

“Deep sympathy for the family of Georgia May Brooke. Controlling boyfriend killed beloved, talented daughter/sister but coroner/police admit “evidence” of her supposed sexual choices. Blame her for her own death. What did police/coroner think they were doing,” UK lawmaker Harriet Harman said in a post on microblogging website X.
