The Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Saturday that two militants were killed in a gunfight close to the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Uri sector.

The suspected militants were killed during an operation conducted by security forces at Hathlanga village of Uri.


Police said one militant was killed in an encounter that started on Saturday morning, and the other was killed in subsequent firing.

In a post on X, police said search operations were underway.

Earlier in the morning, police had posted on X that a gunfight had started in Hathlanga village of Uri after a joint team of security forces launched a search operation in the area.

“Encounter has started between terrorists and Army & Baramulla Police in forward area of Uri, Hathlanga in Baramulla district. Further details shall follow,” the J&K Police said in the earlier post.

While Hathlanga is close to the Line of Control, police have not given any details on whether the militants were part of any infiltrating group.
