The box office last weekend witnessed some shocking outcomes. With two films of different genres, the options seemed clear to the audiences and we had a clear winner.
Tumbbad with its status of a cult classic over the past 5 years of its release was re-released in theatres. Tumbbad broke its own records by gaining three times more than its original earning with its re-release opening day. Over the weekend it gained a total of 7 crore with Sunday being the highest collection day for the horror-fantasy directed by Rahi Anil Barve.

On the other hand, we also had Hansal Mehta’s The Buckingham Murders, a film that has already received much criticism for copying from an American series. As expected the film didn’t do well and it seems like it won’t be able to overcome even the budget margin. It has only earned 5.10 crore since its release. Even the stardom of Kareena Kapoor Khan could not work for the film’s box office outcome.
This battle has put Tumbbad as the second highest grossing release of the weekend behind Stree 2 which is still on a successful run in theatres.
