TRS To BRS; Now Becomes MRS (Maharashtra Rajya Samithi)

While he was in power in Telangana, former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao changed the party’s name from Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), with an ambition of entering national politics.

As a part of his aim, KCR focused extensively on the neighbouring state, Maharashtra. Apart from holding huge public meetings in cities like Chatrapati Shambaji Nagar (Aurangabad) and Nanded, BRS also held a big registration drive in the state.

Around 20 lakh members registered with the BRS party from 288 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, hoping that the party will make it huge in the state.

However, things turned upside down after BRS lost in the 2023 Telangana assembly elections. Since that defeat, KCR has not been active in state politics, forget national politics. Additionally, BRS also failed to win a single seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and weakened further in Telangana.

As a result, KCR and his party’s national ambitions were diluted, leaving Maharashtra BRS members in dismay. While some of them jumped to other parties, the others remained in BRS with no answer from KCR.

As Maharashtra Assembly Elections are around the corner and no response from KCR, these BRS members decided to contest the election in the name of Maharashtra Rajya Samithi (MRS). It is heard that they are planning to join hands with the Maharashtra Parivartan Front and the farmers’ organisations.

Reportedly, MRS leaders will contest at least in 80 seats, especially from the constituencies that share a border with Telangana. In that way, TRS, which turned into BRS, has now become MRS for Maharashtra Elections.
