Kolkata: The trial in the rape and murder of the RG Kar Medical College & Hospital PGT doctor in August started at a special court in Kolkata’s Sealdah on Monday. Meanwhile, the sole accused Sanjay Roy, while leaving the court in the evening, claimed today that he has been falsely implicated by Kolkata Police. The trial is being conducted on a fast-track and daily basis.

“I have been a victim of conspiracy. Vineet Goyal and DC Special have falsely implicated me,” Roy said today from the prison van.

Recently, Roy has claimed in front of media channels, while he was being produced in court, that he did not commit rape or murder, and he was being falsely implicated by the police. Pointing at the Kolkata Police, where he worked as a civic volunteer, Roy also claimed he had been threatened by his own departmental colleagues to remain silent in the matter.

The trial in the case is being conducted in closed door and on-camera with parents of the deceased and other witnesses present at the court. Notably, the statements of the victim’s parents were recorded.

The Sealdah Court in Kolkata has framed charges against Sanjay Roy in connection with the rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The trial started after prime accused Sanjay Roy was produced before the Sealdah court today afternoon. Roy was brought to the court and the proceedings are being held behind closed doors. Lawyers of the parents and West Bengal Junior Doctor’s Front Indira JaySingh were also present at the court.

The floor of the court, where the trial was conducted, was vacated due to security issues, people in the know said.

Roy has been booked under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (punishment for rape), Section 66 (punishment for causing death or resulting in a persistent vegetative state) and 103 (punishment for murder), 103(1) (whoever commits murder shall be punished with death or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine) as per the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The trial started on the 95th day after the body of the PGT doctor was recovered at a seminar hall within the RG Kar premises on August 9 morning. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the RG Kar case, had filed its first charge sheet. In the first charge sheet, Roy was identified as the “sole prime accused” in the rape and murder.

Meanwhile, a single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court today refused to hear the bail plea from the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital Sandi Ghosh in connection with the multi-crore financial irregularities case at the hospital. Ghosh has been arrested by CBI in connection with rape and murder of PGT doctor and RG Kar financial irregularities case.
