Saudi Arabian clubs have become a significant obstacle for Barcelona ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Al-Hilal’s pursuit of Lionel Messi has already been well-documented, even though the Argentine has remained steadfast in his desire to return to Camp Nou this summer.

Now, Catalan outlet SPORT reports that Al-Ittihad, another Saudi Arabian club, are targeting Barcelona’s premier midfield target, Ilkay Gundogan. The report points out the Saudi giants have decided to sign the Manchester City star, whose contract at Etihad expires at the end of the season.

Gundogan’s future has been a hot topic in the market this year, with many expecting him to leave Man City ahead of the new season. To that end, Barcelona has emerged as a potential destination.

Al-Ittihad, though, are ready to battle it out for the services of the German international. The Saudi giants have recently made headlines by securing the services of Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema.

They are now looking to go one step further by bringing in Gundogan on a free transfer this summer.

Gundogan rule out Saudi move, has total agreement with Barcelona

Despite the interest from Al-Ittihad, Ilkay Gundogan is not too keen on the idea of moving to Saudi Arabia this summer, reports Gerard Romero.

The Spanish journalist claims the Manchester City midfielder will not move to the Middle East just yet. He either wants to continue his stay at Etihad by signing a new contract or move to Barcelona and try out a new adventure.

The player has enjoyed his life as the captain of the team, even leading them to FA Cup and Premier League titles this season. He is now eyeing a historic treble, as Man City face Inter Milan in the Champions League final this month.

This has led many to believe that he may extend his contract at Man City. But recent reports suggest the midfielder already has reached a ‘total agreement’ with Barcelona and could soon finalise a move to Camp Nou.

The three-year deal could be worth up to €27 million, with the player earning €9 million per season.
