A shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district has drawn attention during the Islamic festival of Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid), when a 60-year-old man allegedly sacrificed himself instead of an animal.
The man, identified as Ish Mohammad from Udhoopur village under Gauribazar police station, slit his own throat in an apparent act of religious devotion.

According to reports, Ish Mohammad offered Eid prayers at the mosque early in the morning and returned home around 10 a.m. His wife, Hajra Khatoon, stated that he then went to a nearby shed where their goats were kept.
About an hour later, she heard groaning sounds and rushed to the shed, only to find him bleeding from a self-inflicted throat wound. A knife was found next to him.

Neighbors gathered quickly and police were informed. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later referred to Gorakhpur Medical College due to the severity of his condition, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police recovered a suicide note at the scene. It read: “Humans raise goats like their own children and then sacrifice them. They too are living beings. I offer myself in sacrifice in the name of Allah’s messenger. Bury me peacefully. Do not be afraid of anyone.” This note suggests he acted out of personal and religious conviction.
