Dr Shaifali Patil, Consultant – Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Motherhood Hospitals, Kharghar, explained that by understanding the primary cancers affecting women, early detection techniques, and the risk factors and lifestyle decisions that may increase susceptibility to cancer, women can concentrate on leading a wholesome life.

Dr Patil said, “Although most lumps are not accompanied by pain, there are some that can be sensitive or achy. Breast swelling Inflammation, puckering, thickening, inflammation, or flakiness of the skin on the breast, discomfort in the breast or nipple, abnormal discharge from the nipple other than breast milk, nipple inversion (a nipple that appears indented or turned inward).”

Lung cancer: The lungs are where lung cancer takes its initial form. Symptoms indicative of lung cancer encompass an enduring cough that does not dissipate and intensifies progressively, the expulsion of blood through coughing, wheezing or experiencing difficulty breathing, enduring chest pain, bone pain, alterations in voice such as hoarseness, recurrent lung infections like pneumonia or bronchitis, unintentional weight loss, diminished appetite, frequent headaches, and blood clots.

Typically, lung cancer remains asymptomatic until it reaches an advanced stage. This is due to the limited presence of nerve endings in the lungs, allowing tumors to grow without inducing pain. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is advisable to consult your doctor for lung cancer testing and assessment of alternative causes like asthma.

Bladder cancer: The onset of bladder cancer occurs in the cells of the bladder, making it one of the most frequently encountered types of cancer. The appearance of blood in the urine is often an early indicator of bladder cancer. This can result in a pinkish, reddish, or even orange hue to the urine. Additionally, changes in urination patterns such as experiencing difficulties while urinating, feeling pain during urination, or being unable to pass urine are commonly associated with this condition.

Ovarian cancer: This is a prevalent form of cancer that affects women, characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of cells in the ovaries and fallopian tubes. This condition leads to the formation of tumors in these reproductive organs.
