Indian marriages might be in big trouble, as reflected by the striking rise in the number of users on Gleeden, a dating app specifically designed for married individuals seeking extramarital connections.
Gleeden’s user base in India increased by 270% in 2024, and as of right now, there are about 3 million active users on the app. This represents about half of the app’s user base worldwide.

Notably, women make up 58% of these Indian users, and in the last year alone, their participation has increased by 128%. Almost 40% of these women spend up to 45 minutes on the app every day.
Major cities like Bengaluru, accounts for 20% of the app’s users, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi are next with 19%, 18%, and 15% of the total, respectively. Additionally, smaller cities like Kochi, Vadodara, and Bhopal are also experiencing a rise in users.

Interestingly, most of these users fall within the 30–45 age group. While this demographic is becoming more open to unconventional relationships, many express concern about the declining focus on having children.
The decriminalization of adultery in India is believed to be a major factor contributing to the popularity of not following traditional rules and values of marriage.

Some experts also suggest that many users aren’t exactly seeking physical affairs but are rather looking for companionship and emotional connections that some partners cannot provide.
The internet remains divided on the issue; some believe it’s a move toward a modern society where traditional perceptions about marriage are evolving. On the other hand, many are raising concerns about trust, privacy, and the value of getting married to someone.
Gleeden is banned in several countries under strict adultery laws and conservative norms; these include Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Pakistan due to concerns about promoting extramarital affairs.
The rise of a platform like Gleeden in the Indian market signals a significant cultural shift in India. As of now, the future of Indian marriages in modern society hangs in the balance.
