An ex-FBI official said suspect Ryan Wesley Routh may have been given inside information about the president’s schedule and if that is the case, it’s a scary situation. Trump’s game was not publicly known and it was a last-minute decision.
A Secret Service agent first spotted the rifle barrel sticking out of the fence of the golf course and immediately opened fire. The accused fled the scene in a car and was later arrested by the police.
Chris Swecker, a retired FBI assistant director, told Newsweek that the feds and other law enforcement will be probing how the suspect knew Trump would be at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Sunday.
“The biggest question to answer is: ‘How did the would-be assassin know to be at that location at that time?’” said Swecker, who worked on FBI criminal investigations.
“There are only three possible answers: He guessed and got very lucky; he conducted surveillance on Trump and followed him to the golf course, or he had inside information about Trump’s schedule.”
“The last answer is scary and has implications that another person was involved.”
Acting US Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe plans to remain in Florida “indefinitely” as the investigation into an apparent second assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump plays out
President Joe Biden reacted to the second assassination attempt on Trump and said: “Thank God the president is okay”. “The one thing I want to make clear is Service needs more help, and I think the Congress should respond to their needs if they in fact need more Service people. So that’s what we’re going to be talking about,” he said.
