Three policemen booked for causing death by negligence in Kalaburagi

Nearly two-and-a-half years after the death of an accused who jumped from the third floor of Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) during a medical examination, the Criminal Investigation Department has registered cases against three policemen for causing death by negligence.

A 20-year-old Munna Sohib, who was the prime accused in a robbery case reported in January 2022 in the city, was absconding for nearly eight months before being arrested by the Kalaburagi Police in August 2022.

As per protocol, the three policemen, Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Khadar, and two constables Huchappa and Kumar Rathod, took him for medical examination prior to producing him before court.

When the policemen unlocked his handcuff during medical examination, Munna tried to escape from them and jumped from the third floor of the hospital building and died.

The CID investigated the case and submitted a 257-page report which blames negligence on the part of the police officers for the incident.
