Thangalaan

Today Vikram’s Thangalaan was released in theatres, and many audiences and critics who watched this movie have mentioned in their social handles that the second half of the movie was poor. This was not only for Thangalaan, but also many Kollywood movies that were released in the past few years got the same comments.

Many countries around the world won’t have an intermission between movies, but in India and some other countries, there is an intermission between the first half and the second half of the movie for many other reasons, which include the selling of snacks, social interactions, and many others.

Usually, a movie will be constructed based on a setup, midpoint, and ending; the midpoint of the movie is considered an intermission in Indian cinema. Recently released Tamil movies, for example, Raayan and Thangalaan, both the movies were on top class before the midpoint, which means intermission. But once after the intermission, both movies dip, and with a draggy screenplay, both movies end up being average. These were not only for the recently released movies, but many movies in Kollywood such as Sarkar, Kaala, Thunivu, and many others dip in the second half.

These second-half dips were due to many reasons, which include deviation from the storyline after the midpoint, lack of pacing, dragging the story to end with a grand climax, and many others. Let us hope the upcoming most expected movies in Kollywood escape from this curse, which many directors have failed in recent years.
